The Unimpressed Generation

To Kick of this blog, I thought I would stir up a topic that often drives me to unending rants.  I realize each generation, going back to the beginning, has said, " . . this generation does'nt know hard work!  They're so spoiled!  In my day . . " and so on.  However, THIS generation of young teens(and others), while not entirely unique, come with a brand new ingredient: ADVANCED TECHNOLOGY.  Advanced technology allowing us to do things we only dreamed about 100 years ago.  Some technologies, only 20 years old.  Some, have only been here for a year or two.  All of these things allowing us to do new and old things . . FASTER.  This fast technology that takes us form east to west coast by airplane, heats a meal in minutes, makes talking to someone in the Himalaya's by cell phone, trade stock and make purchases of goods ON a phone . ..  . has given us too much too fast.  The irony here is, I happen to love technology, and I use it all of the time.  What I'm seeing however, is a new 'spoiledness' to the youth, and a general lack of patience young and old.
You see, the 'gripe' in the 1800's was, ". . look at these kids, with plows, and windmills!  In my day we had to use our hands . . but now-day with all these metals . . SHEESH!"  I argue that we have seen the biggest jump forward in technological advances, especially in America, from the 80's to today, then ever.  And not just a jump in technology, but an increase in the ease of aquiring things, and their availability.  I can do things from my cell phone that amaze me.  My cell phone is more advanced than all of the computers in the world combined in 1980.  Or take a laptop/home computer.  Thanks to a typical home computer, and internet connection, I can watch riots as they are happening in London.  I can haggle the price of a copper tea pot with a banker in New Guinea on Ebay.  I can 'create' a band, and have a free myspace music profile, and put my music on iTunes for the WORLD to download and hear.  Hear me!  HEAR ME PLAYING MY MUISC, THAT I RECORDED  .  . . RECORDED . . .FROM MY HOME AND 'THREW' IT OUT INTO THE INTERNET!!!  You all know.
Now, I watch the Elderly of this current time virtually ignore todays technology (internet, cell phones, etc.) due to a lack of understanding it, and the youth already bored with maybe year-old inventions.  How, unless you have zero grasp of recent history, can you possibly have anything to complain about in modern America today?  Does it solve everything? No.  But we can do more things easier, yet our 'bitching' has INCREASED in this country!
I, as always, am interested in your thoughts, links to articles, and rants on this topic.
Cheers,
  Drew

A good friend of mine referred me to this hillarious clip regarding this exact topic:
